Most people stop trimming because of one bad cut. You catch the quick, there's blood, your dog yelps - and after that the clippers might as well not exist. The nails keep growing, they start clicking on the floor, and eventually it's a vet visit for something you could have done at home.
This one lights the nail from the inside. Two LEDs sit either side of the opening and shine through the nail, so the quick shows up as a dark shadow even on black claws. You can see exactly where to stop before you press. The safety guard caps how much nail can pass through, so even a nervous first attempt takes off too little rather than too much.
Who it's for
Dogs of any size, and cats. The stainless steel blades are sharp enough for thick large-breed nails without stalling, and the same tool handles a kitten's claws. Particularly useful if you've got a dog with dark nails, or if you've tried once, drawn blood, and haven't gone near it since.
Who it isn't for
It won't fix nails that have already curled into the pad - that needs a vet or groomer first. And a dog who won't let you hold a paw at all still needs desensitising work before any tool helps; consider the scratch board instead, where the dog does the filing themselves.

How to use it
Charge it fully before the first use. Hold the paw gently and slide one nail into the lit opening - the quick appears as a shadow, and you want to cut a few millimetres clear of it. Cut once, cleanly, then switch to the grinder and smooth the edge in short passes rather than holding it against the nail. Do two or three nails the first time and stop while it's still going well. Treats after every nail, not at the end.
Care and safety
Never cut into the shadow - leave a margin. Keep styptic powder nearby the first few times in case you clip too close. Wipe the blades and grinder head clean of dust after each session and store it locked. Don't use on cracked, split, or infected nails; see a vet first. Keep sessions short - a stressed pet will remember. For pet use only; not a toy, keep away from children.
